A TOTAL of one hundred and sixty women are to benefit from a skill acquisition programme supported by the United Nation’s Population Fund (UNFPA) in twage-appropriatesplace Persons (IDP) camps, officials have said.
Known as UNFPA supported Safe Space, the programme was established in Malkohi and NYSC IDP Camps to provide enabling environment for women and girls to interact and access culturally sensitive and age appropriate sexual and reproductive health information and GBV services (counselling, psychosocial support and referral).
It is expected to provide a platform for emotional support and leisure activities in a secure and safe environment.
“Skill acquisition programme is the component of the safe space that intended to build capacity of beneficiaries to access economic resources and accelerate re-integration into communities of origin,” UNFPA said in a statement at the weekend.
A total of 70 women and girls are listed to have benefited from the skill acquisition programme in the two camps.
Another new safe space is expected to be established in Damare village host community for IDPs in the next quarter of implementation.
“By December, 2015 ninety (90) more women and girls will benefit from the skill acquisition programme and psychosocial care services,” Kori Habib said on behalf of UNFPA.
She stressed: “The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari, visited Malkohi IDP Camp in Yola, Adamawa State on Friday the 13/11/15. Among the sites he visited in the Camp was the UNFPA supported Safe Space.”
