China wins $1.6 bln railway contract in Europe

A China Railway Group led consortium has won a contract to build a section of a railway linking Hungary’s Budapest with Serbia’s Belgrade. The Hungary-based project is China’s first high-speed rail win in the European Union. It’s worth some 10 billion yuan or 1.6 billion US dollars.
The consortium consists of three firms including Hungarian State Railways. And the section it has undertaken to build stretches 160 kilometers. The entire railway will be 350 kilometers long, with the Serbian portion to be completed in two years.
